Original run, 1982 to 1994

FXR

1982 to 1983, 1986 to 1994. The original FXR: the base model of the family, launched as the Super Glide II and later sold simply as the Super Glide.

FXRS

1982 to 1992 (some guides say 1993). The dressier twin of the first FXR. It later became the Low Glide, then the Low Rider, and was the most common FXR of the early years.

FXRT

1983 to 1992. The faired sport tourer of the family, with a frame-mounted fairing and hard bags that started life on Harley's cancelled Nova project.

FXRD

1986. A one-year luxury touring version of the FXRT, with a trunk, stereo and floorboards.

1984. A limited 1984 special with a solid disc rear wheel, and Cycle World's Best Cruiser that year.

FXRC

1985 (some guides say to 1987). A limited 1985 custom in Candy Orange and Root Beer, with wire wheels and a dozen chrome covers.

FXRP

1984 to about 1994. The factory police FXR, based on the FXRT. It became a familiar sight in films and TV.

FXLR

1987 to 1994. The custom-styled FXR, with a skinny 21 inch front wheel, solid rear wheel and blacked-out engine.

FXRS-SP / Sport

1985 option; separate model 1987 or 1988 to 1993 or 1994. The FXRS with the FXRT's taller suspension and twin front discs, but no fairing. Many riders see it as the best handling FXR.

FXRS-CONV

1989 or 1990 to about 1993. An FXRS with a quick-detach windshield and soft saddlebags, so one bike could tour and cruise.
