FXRP Police
The factory police FXR, based on the FXRT. It became a familiar sight in films and TV.
Overview

The FXRP police model debuted for 1984, based on the FXRT (Rider, Sep 2017; Hot Bike, "Separating the Men From the Boys"). Its fairing came from the same Nova-derived design as the FXRT (Hot Bike, "Separating the Men From the Boys").
Rider lists three VIN codes: ED for the windshield version, EF for the fairing version, and EK for a California Highway Patrol version. Rider's author says 237 of the CHP bikes were built, "allegedly" by the race shop (Rider, Sep 2017).
shovelhead.us lists 588 FXRPs for 1984 plus 189 "FXRP Chips" (shovelhead.us, 1984). Moto Gallery's guide associates the model with 1984 to 1994 (Moto Gallery FXR overview). Harley's police owner's manuals show it was still offered for 1990 and 1992 (Harley-Davidson 1990 FXRP/FLHTP Owner's Manual; Harley-Davidson 1992 FLHTP/FXRP Owner's Manual). We have not found a primary source for the last year unverified.
FXRPs appear in Ghostbusters, Moonwalker and many other titles. See Pop Culture.

Known issues
Common problems across the FXR family, by model year: Known Issues →
Missing fairing and bag parts
Buyer's guides note that FXRT and FXRP fairing, bag and trim parts are often missing or swapped on used bikes (Moto Gallery FXR overview).
Rubber mounts and stabilizer links
The whole design depends on three elastomer mounts and two adjustable stabilizer links (Rider, Sep 2017). Buyer's guides suggest checking them on any used FXR (Moto Gallery FXR overview). Typical wear symptoms and replacement intervals unverified.
1984 dry clutch
Early 1984 bikes had a dry clutch; later 1984 bikes got a wet clutch (Rider, Sep 2017; Cycle World, Sep 1984). Check which one a bike has before ordering parts.
