How it is estimated

Every model year’s production, worn down each year by FXR Archive’s attrition rule (the same one behind FXRs on the Road and the Surviving FXRs counter), times the miles a bike rides at each age: about 4,000 in its first year, falling to a few hundred a year in old age. The age curve follows the shape in EPA’s MOVES model and the level matches FHWA’s miles per motorcycle.

Fuel at 38 mpg, about 19.6 gallons of gasoline per barrel of crude (EIA), and 2 million barrels per VLCC supertanker. Production numbers: The Bazar Book of FXRs by Nick Hinzo. Everything else is FXR Archive’s own estimate, not a registry count.
