Registered FXRs: New York, How It Works

Source. Vehicle, Snowmobile, and Boat Registrations, published by the NY Department of Motor Vehicles on data.ny.gov. The source file was last updated Oct 2, 2026. We pulled it on Oct 15, 2026.

What counts as an FXR. A VIN that starts 1HD1 and has one of our 15 FXR model codes in positions 5 and 6: EA, EB, EC, ED, EE, EF, EG, EH, EJ, EK, EL, EM, ES, ET, EV. That is the same table our VIN decoder uses. We kept motorcycle-body rows with an FXR model year (1982 to 1994, 1999, 2000). Of the 1,349, 1,333 are regular motorcycle plates, 8 historical motorcycle and 8 organization motorcycle.

Rows. One row per model designation, meaning the 5th and 6th characters of the VIN, labeled with the bare model name from our VIN decoder. The pairs are: EA FXR, EB FXRS, EC FXRT, EE FXRDG, EG FXRS-SP, EH FXRD, EJ FXRC, EL FXLR, EM FXRS-Conv, ES FXR2, ET FXR3, EV FXR4. FXRP combines the three police pairs, ED (windshield), EF (fairing) and EK (California Highway Patrol), into a single row of 62. FXR2, FXR3 and FXR4 are the 1999 and 2000 CVO models. Our decoder has no FXR1 code.

What we publish. Totals by model and by model year only. No VINs, no ZIP codes, towns or counties, and no owner information, which the file does not carry anyway. Counts are exact. The raw pull stays off the site.

• Registered is not the same as surviving. A bike in a barn with no plate is not in this count. A bike on a New York plate is.
• One state, one day. Our national estimate (52,721 on January 1, 2026) is our own attrition model. New York’s count is real plates in one state. It is a sample. Do not multiply it into a national number.
• Model codes are what the VIN says. A frame or engine swap can leave a VIN and a bike that disagree. Rebuilt and re-VINed bikes can hide.
• New York only. Other states do not publish a file like this that we have found.
